About CIM Industries

During the 1960’s, the U.S. saw an explosion in high school construction due to the aging baby-boomer generation. With each high school, a running track was being built and to meet this need, Chevron developed a synthetic running track that was a combination of both asphalt and plastics.

Later during the 1970’s baby-boomers were now driving and this spurred highway construction across the nation. Chevron at the time was providing asphalt for roads, but not the bridges. Chevron decided to use their formulation they had developed for the running tracks to waterproof bridge decks and named it Bridge Deck Membrane (BDM). The membrane worked so well, Chevron saw opportunities for the product in other markets and changed the name to Chevron Industrial Membrane (CIM) eventually becoming CIM 1000.

In the mid-80’s, Chevron acquired Gulf Oil. In order to pay for the acquisition, Chevron had to sell off its non-core businesses. CIM being neither a lubricant nor oil was sold.

Today C.I.M. Industries, Inc. is a privately owned company with the corporate headquarters located in Peterborough. The headquarters houses the technical, sales, administrative and development staff. The manufacturing, however, is done in company owned facilities in Houston, TX
